Don

Are the HP printers on the network? If so, I strongly recommend that you forget about the CA sessions and create *LAN print devices instead - you get rid of the potential weaknesses of having an extra machine in the mix for one thing. Do not use remote output queues unless you absolutely have to - and it has been quite a while since HP LAN devices were available.

For more information go to www.iseries.ibm.com/support and search using the words ascii and printers maybe.

I have done similar setups before - but non exactly like this:

We have an HP color LaserJet which is DIRECT Ethernet connected to our LAN.

I have used the CD to install the printer (as peer to peer?) on each PC which needs to connect to this new printer. That works fine for PC related work.

Now, on one of those PC's which already uses the printer - I have installed Client Access and created a printer session with this new printer as the "default" printer.

I have tried to send AS/400 prints over there but they seem to "evaporate" into thin air. I did get a message on Forms change which I gave a "G" to , but all AS/400 stuff just appears to hang in the Q, and then no other PC related work will print either. I had to close down the C/A printer session and reboot the PC on which the session was installed. That cleared out the printer Q, and now the PC related work prints ok again.

I don't know if the direct network attachment is why I cannot get this to work?

I already have C/A printer sessions working with LPT1 connections to PCs, as well as with HP Jetdirect print servers.

Thanks.
