From: richard@xxxxxxxxxxx We mainly used the ADO.Net approach so they could use the techniques with other databases than iSeries. However the VB.Net code would have been 99% the same with calling the JDBC drivers from the ".Net-ified" JT400 toolbox. Have you tried that code yet ? Very cool stuff.
Well, I'm sure you know my position on using ODBC or JDBC to access iSeries data. It causes tight binding between the tiers and except for the very simplest code requires business logic on the client. If you were calling RPG programs on the host, that'd be a different story.
We would have had the code up in two minutes if I didn't have to actually teach the class and impart knowledge :-)
Yeah, well writing .NET-based SQL applications ought to be quick; it's the only architecture Microsoft does <grin>.
PS: I bet EGL could be used to create .Net apps too since it's mainly a template language.
Not really. It's basically a J2EE equivalent to Visual Studio, using JSF as the UI as opposed to .NET forms.
PSS: I plan to be in Vegas for Devcon. Let's try to get together if you have time.
I'll be there all week! Joe
