is the 17GB mentioned in the Memo to Users a
"physical" requiremnt (I have enough) or a "usable space" requirement (I
don't have enough)

Physical disk size.

In previous posts, it has been emphasized to follow the pre-install planning in the Info Center, especially the steps labelled Required: Allocating additional space for Licensed Internal Code. In these steps it will verify load source has enough room, and if not, then it will move stuff off load source to make room. What I don't see in the instructions, and have encountered several times is that when the api called is moving stuff off load source, there is no msg or indication of when it's done. I watch the disk drive lights till they stop (and the last little i5 took almost an hour to complete that) before I ipl'd. Don't like doing a pwrdwnsys when the disk is active... Those who ignore these pre-plan steps, if there is not room...will be reloading their system from backup after the upgrade halts.

Power schedule entries---what are those?

Just kidding, we don't use it on a regualr basis (first one this year we did a month or so ago) and I did catch that today also while going thru the Memo to Users (hey I got another 6 wks or so till we do the upgrade, why rush???
:)

So then my feeble mind asks, is the 17GB mentioned in the Memo to Users a
"physical" requiremnt (I have enough) or a "usable space" requirement (I
don't have enough)

The physical drive is 17 GB, but it's usable space is depleted by raid
striping which is not readily apparent.

The other thing you should know about this upgrade is that your power
scheduler entries will be wiped out.

It's been "sooooooo" long since I dealt with an upgrade that I am just a
"little" confused.

V5R4 Memo to Users says Load Source Disk Unit must be at least 17GB.

I am thinking I have an issue here because WRKDSKSTS shows me for disk
unit
1 in ASP 1

1 6718 15355 49.2

So that means I have around 15gb not the 17 required?

If so, now I call for HELP from IBM/BP?
