Sunny, If you have a license and support for 'Synon' Computer Associates has all of the documentation on their website. I think it includes the original horse tutorial. www.ca.com <http://www.ca.com> http://customerconnect.ca.com/ <http://customerconnect.ca.com/> their documents are in the support connect section. --- there's also a user group, which is similar to the old lava lounge: http://edgeusergroup.pugmarks.net/forums/index.cfm?CFApp=82 <http://edgeusergroup.pugmarks.net/forums/index.cfm?CFApp=82> --- synon tips http://www.obsydian.com/s2tiptec.htm <http://www.obsydian.com/s2tiptec.htm> http://www.obsydian.com/toc.htm <http://www.obsydian.com/toc.htm> (i don't agree with the political statements made on this website) --- i can help with some specific questions, time permitting. bill ----- Original Message ----- From: Phil Ashe <mailto:Phil.Ashe@xxxxxxxxx> To: Midrange Systems Technical <mailto:midrange-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx> Discussion Sent: Thursday, September 21, 2006 10:57 AM Subject: RE: as/400 Sunny: Synon has been rebranded several times as it moved from a Synon to a part of Sterling to now part of CA. CA is the current owner and they call the product AllFusion. If you are maintaining an application, there should documentation for the tool somewhere. It helps to know what it was called when the site used it. It has been known as Cool and Advantage, too. There are also mostly empty Wikis about AllFusion Plex (Obsydian) and AllFusion 2E. I don't think there's a bunch of free resources on AllFusion. Otherwise, Hawkbridge sells training for AllFusion. If you are creating an application from scratch, there are other application tools you can look at that have a less steep learning curve and are cheaper also, but are less capable. Most of them are RPG based. These tools can help you produce a nice application quickly. If you really want (or need) a COBOL tool, try to find Easy Tool Kit or ETK (by Leif Svalgaard among others). This is a great tool. You can develop on a PC and push the application to any platform. Or develop on the System i and deploy it to a Unix. There is a tool called Libero by iMatix that is derived from ETK that you can look at too. The IBM Information Center has advanced information on SQL and COBOL. There are books and other internet resources for both SQL and COBOL on the System i.
