The SL rep had me running through the instructions for sending and
installing fix groups using Management Central; eventually I found this:

Fixing the *UNKNOWN Status from WRKPTFGRP

Document Description
The WRKPTFGRP command shows a group in an UNKNOWN status.

This usually indicates that the group information or a related PTF is
not on the system.

Resolution:

In the WRKPTFGRP screen, select Option 9=Display related PTF groups next
to the UNKNOWN PTF group. This lists the related groups. For any of the
groups that show a status of NOT FOUND or ERROR, run the following
command:

CPYPTFGRP PTFGRP(SF99xxx) FROMDEV(OPTxx) TODEV(*SERVICE)

where SF99xxx is the group PTF number and OPTxx is the optical device
description. If the actual PTFs do not yet exist on the system, then
installing the group will update the group information in WRKPTFGRP.

I loaded C6178530_01 and ran CPYPTFGRP PTFGRP(SF99530) FROMDEV(OPT01)
TODEV(*SERVICE) and it fixed us right up. I still don't know why the
cume download from Fix Central didn't include the group information.
All of the PTF's were there.

Not working as designed for sure.
Sounds somewhat familiar though. But, it's been awhile since I've been
on
V5R3.
I'd call IBM.

Subject
WRKPTFGRP does not display correct levels

Has anyone seen this? I downloaded C6178530 through Fix Central and did
an image catalog install on my Prod system this weekend. DSPPTF 5722SS1
shows: TC06178 Temporarily applied. DSPPTF 5722999 shows: TL06178
Temporarily applied. WRKPTFGRP shows:

PTF Group Level Status
SF99530 6142 Installed

According to iSeries Navigator, all PTF's on our Prod and Test systems
match, yet on the test system WRKPTFGRP shows:

PTF Group Level Status
SF99530 6178 Installed

Three additional groups don't match as well. PTF's on the Test system
were installed from CD's as the Fix Central package appeared to be
customized for our Prod system. Normally the Group levels show "Not
Installed" as soon as you order them. Is this "Working As Designed" for
Fix Central?
