In any case boot the slic CD (contact me off list if you need one) and perform the PIP. Maybe the machine will IPL after that, maybe not.
The only other way out is to replace the RAID card. You WILL still lose data but at least it won't complain about it. :-)

A customer of mine is having a problem with an old 270. After sitting for an extended period of time, when attempting to power the system on, the following error message appears: error code 27639010 “Cache data associated with attached devices cannot be found.” Requires a service technician to perform procedure SDIOP-PIP31” …in which he will most likely find that: “The cache battery pack may be depleted. Do NOT replace the I/O adapter or the cache battery pack. Reclaim the cache storage.” This procedure will require that the service tech then IPL the machine to get to the dedicated service tools (DST) function, but the only way he will be able to get there is by IPLing from media (CDs) which we do not have for this machine. * Requires a service call. NOTE: Technician will need to bring with him operating system CDs for V4R5 to be able to IPL the machine from media. Has anyone seen this message before and is there another way to bring the system into a normal state? Thanks in advance Dave WIllenborg
