Yes, it can.  Check out:

It's an extender, not native XML data type, but say IBM did add native XML
data types.  Do you realize what development cost that would be (hundreds of
millions of dollars)?  Then poll midrange.com here and ask how many are
clamoring for native XML data types (1%?).

MySQL can run in PASE. DB2 for AIX should be able to run there also.
If it was as easy for me to get the latest release of i5/OS as the AIX
box I just received I might know more about PASE on v5r4 and what it
takes to interop with it from ILE.. And if DB2 for AIX is written in
POSIX C then it could be compiled as native i5/OS code. Wouldn't that
be a blast.  XML is very CPU intensive. No problem on a modern quad
core system. Hopefully the upcoming IBM announcement at COMMON will
save the day.
