Or multi-caps, like VanDerSchnitzel, although sometimes those people put spaces
in them too, which fixes the caps problem but could cause issues if you're
doing a lastname/firstname swap against it.

Subject: RE: Converting names & street names

One more exception: There is at least one name I can think of where the third
letter is sometimes capitalized. Just depends on who is writing the name. The
name has origins in French and German.

John McKee

Quoting Jeff Crosby <jlcrosby@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>:

I believe it handles the O'Donnell, but the McThis & McThat I don't
think it does at the moment LOL

I have never come upon a complete foolproof set of rules to do this right.

Our customers are restaurants so we have names like:

Paul's Pub
St John's Ev Luth-Indy
St Mary's Schl-Avilla
Pam's Café
Ducks C-Store N' More Llc
Four D's Bar & Grill
Guido's (Yes there really is one . . .) Bandido's--Georgetown Camp
Potawatomi---Ymca Mckenney-Harrison Elem Sc Bashor Home Of The Umc

And it goes on and on and on. It's hard to believe how many have a
quote in there.

The above are exactly how mine appear after passing through my
routine. As you can see, my routine does not handle a number of
things properly, such as "Llc", "Ymca", and the aforementioned Mcwhatever.

Note that the O' one becomes even more fun. It looks like the letter
after the quote should be upper'ed only if the letter before the quote is
upper.
But it seems like every time I come up with a rule I find some other
exception. It's good enough currently that I don't hear complaints.

Oh, and we have a customer named:

O'sullivan's Pub

Where the one s should be uppered and the other not. Some day if I
run out of things to do . . .
