What is the FTP server you are trying to do the MGET on?
I've seen issues with some older FTP servers not being able to handle the
MGET.
Also, try using a more specific statement,
instead of   MGET   *.*
try  MGET  Fil*

I've seen issues where there was a hidden or special file in the source
location that was causing a similar issue.
