   I wrote in S/36, and S/34 before it, from about 1984 to 1998.

   Nowadays I use logical indexes, RPGSQL, or very occasionally OPNQRYF to
   get the same kind of end result, which is to select what data to include,
   and process it in whatever sequence.  Often I use a combination, where the
   LF gets at the general data of reference while RPG narrows the focus, but
   SQL embedded in RPG is an extremely powerful tool.  I also sometimes have
   to modify some software where one program is used to perform a sort
   selection function, and a second program generates the output.
