65535 is my sysval.  If I change that right b4 running the transfer, what would 
I change it to and would that have any detrimental effect on other files being 
created while the transfer's running?  
 
Also, I'm using a familiar ftp software app which goes right from the other 
system (bank) to a PF in a library and because the software's at a backlevel I 
can't use the IFS now.

A couple of wag's:
- Check out the CCSID of the new file.  You might have to have that set 
right BEFORE the data is transferred into it.
- Receive the file in the IFS first and then use CPYFRMSTMF to get it into 
a db file
