Good one, Dave!

I won't speak for Joe - no one can - but one thing that is more secure than raw
ODBC is to use stored procedures for everything. This might be what he means by
server programs. Something like locking users out of the files with iSeries
security but having programs (with controlled access to the data) that are
callable as stored procedures that return result sets to the ODBC client.

Joe,

You wrote in part:

ODBC access is a nightmare waiting to happen, which is why I prefer
server
programs. <<

Joe, how can ODBC be "a nightmare waiting to happen"? It's sanctioned
and promoted by Microsoft, a world leader in how to design and deploy
software and very concerned about security! ;)

Now to the serious part... what sort of server programs are you
speaking about? Can you point me in the right direction so I can get
educated.

Thanks,

Dave Odom
