Hi Darrell,

There are two answers to your question as follows:

a) Rotating a particular paper size through portrait,
landscape, reverse portrait, and reverse landscape has
no effect on the command (it should work correctly).

b) The way that paper is stored in the input tray
(long edge feed versus short edge feed) can quite
often be perceived by the hardware device as
"different" so that the device will not automatically
switch between input trays with for example Letter
paper and those with Letter R.

drawers

Does the approach you describe work if the paper is
"different" based on orientation (rotation)?

Hi Brian,

The HP PCL sequence to request an automatic
selection of an input tray (based on the size of
the
paper requested by the spool file) is 1B 26 6C 37
48. The text representation is <esc>&l7H.

If you create a workstation customization object
and
adjust some of the source drawer entries to use the
above referenced tray selection string, a request
for any of these source drawers will then result in

the device automatically selecting an input tray
based on the requested paper size and the
activation
of automatic switching from one input to another
until all input trays with that size of paper
loaded
have been emptied.
