Let's see: would this system be running a web server per chance? If so where do you suppose the processing for static page requests, CGI applications, Servlets, etc. is running? They are all background tasks which is the same thing as batch processing in the way discussed in this series of appends--unless you intend to hark back to batch processing like the ancient key-to-disk stuff.

Utter nonsense that batch/background processing has limited use on modern systems.
