have stopped in between. And YES, we do have 8 GB disk in that system.Remember, system came up fine on the B-side, until I started to install additional PTF-Packages.
I don't see the error. Philipp Kendall Kinnear schrieb:
Actually I was referring to the "allocate additional space" that needed to be done on V5R2. Here are the instructions from the V5R3 Memo to Users. -------Quote Start------- The V5R3 Licensed Internal Code requires more storage space on the load source than in previous releases. To upgrade to the V5R3M0 Licensed Internal Code, you must have a load-source disk unit of 4 GB or larger on each server or logical partition. For optimum performance, at least 8 GB is recommended. To upgrade to the V5R3M5 LIC (licensed internal code), you must have a load-source disk unit of 17 GB or larger. Before you upgrade, ensure that the server meets disk storage requirements for upgrades; in the Information Center, click Install, upgrade, or delete i5/OS(r) and related software > Upgrading or replacing i5/OS and related software > Preparing to upgrade or replace software > Performing initial upgrade or replacement tasks > Ensuring the server meets disk storagerequirements for upgrades. In addition, all server models with V5R2 or earlier installed require additional reserved storage before V5R3 can be installed. All server models with V5R3M0 Licensed Internal Code installed require additional reserved storage before the V5R3M5 LIC (licensed internal code) can be installed. Your upgrade will stop during the installation if you do not allocate the additional space. In the Information Center, click Install, upgrade, or delete i5/OS and related software > Upgrading or replacing i5/OS and related software > Preparing to upgrade or replace software > Performing initial upgrade or replacement tasks > Required: Allocating additional space for Licensed Internal Code for instructions. -------Quote End------- Kendall Kinnear System i5 Architect StonebridgeDirect Telephone Number: 972.419.7709Or Toll Free: 800.776.9755 x7709 Cell Phone Number: 214-676-3146 Fax Number: 972.455.7260 Kendall.Kinnear@xxxxxxxx http://www.SBTI.com/ If you are interested in iSeries and application development, follow Angus' blog at http://www.angustheitchap.com/ -----Original Message----- From: midrange-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:midrange-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Philipp Rusch Sent: Monday, July 03, 2006 8:50 AM To: Midrange Systems Technical Discussion Subject: Re: V5R3 - PTF and link loader problem - IPL B hangs at B6000901 YES , MF35461 was applied before I started to install C6101530.Meanwhile, MF36564 superseded this, I think, it came with the C6101530-package.It is permanently applied.I would not ask here, if I was allowed to call IBM, we don't have a software contract at the moment at this customer (other BP told them this kind of problem solution was covered byhardware contract ... ) Thanks for the answer anyway. There were NO special instructions in the coverletter.System came up and went through some SRCs, then it powered downitself."notStrange! We started again from panel - IPL from B-N. System took a while, then SRC B6000901. OK, we started from IPL-A-N, system runs and shows lots of PTFs infromapplied" status for 5722999 and 5722SS1. Sitting on the A-side now, we are not able to aplly microcode PTFs. I decided o install the LIC from CD again. Now I was able to startlotsIPL-B-N. Now I had a system with nearly no PTFs on 5722999, but still thoseon 5722SS1.When trying to apply PTF manually, one after each other, or even to remove them,we get "link loader errors" and nothing else happens. I tried to install the cumulative PTF-Package C5209530, but thisfails.hasI know there is some module in the PTF list for the microcode whichto be removed, but how ? Friday I reinstalled both , the LIC and SS1, and then started with C5209530. This failed with a long list of SS1-PTFs (ca. 50 in "not applied" state).I could manage to get the dependant microcode PTFs via iPTF, then manually appliedthem and re-IPLed from B-N, this time it came up OK. Now I was thinking that installing C6101530 was ok, which we receivedinthe meantime since our first installation of V5R3. No Luck ! I am in the same status as before now : SRC B6000901 So we run from A-side at the moment ... What the heck am I missing here ? Any hint welcome, regards from Germany, Philipp Rusch
