Steve,

We have been exploring several methods of creating Excel spreadsheets. We
have looked at Peter Colpaert's CPYPF2XLS source. It is well written. If
you are looking at larger files, there is a lack of speed.

We have settled in on using some code that Michael Ryan has developed
along with Andy Khan's JEXCELAPI java code. This option provided greater
speed.

We did encounter one problem related to 5.3. We changed a CPYTOIMPF
command to CPYTOSTMF command. We found a problem with converting a file
with CCSID 65535.

Both Peter and Michael are contributors to this list. Both options will
create spreadsheets based on entire files. We developed our own programs
to wrap theirs to allow users to define their own builds. The users can
select fields, sort orders, select records, and edit column headings. We
have also made some minor changes to source from Peter, Michael, and Andy.
Our package is currently being testing by some of our users. Once they are
done testing, our president has authorized me to share our code since we
are using code from the 3 gentlemen mentioned previously.

HTH,

Nick W. Mart

HI What are some of the methods in taking a file that was generated by an
RPG program and getting it to the user in an Excel Worksheet file?

It seems to be a straightforward file. Is there a preferred method. Any
issues w/ v5.3 and the client access ?

Thanks,
Steve
