Did anyone suggest applying a group first before a cume?  I didn't see 
that.

Well, yes. It was in the paragraph that I included. The paragraph ends with:

When doing a ptf install only I do the groups first then the cume
followed by one IPL.  Has worked for 20 years!


That's what I was responding to. It seemed a little unusual, so I wrote out my 
general understanding of cumes and groups. It could have been a typo or there 
might be strong reasoning behind it. If there's reasoning, I'm always happy to 
learn.
