I was not sure what the original poster meant by the RUNCMD command - there is not an IBM command of that name on the iSeries that I know of. It is also not part of DOS or Windows natively. I googled on it and found something in DB2 (not the iSeries version).

I'm not even sure what the person meant by "the server" where RUNCMD would be found. A PC, SQL Server, Windows server, what? Anyway, I assumed the poster wanted to execute a command on the iSeries from a non-iSeries machine, as you did. The FTP solution is a good one, in that it does require a logon. Another option is turning on the REXEC server on the iServer, then using REXEC on a Windows box and pointing at the iSeries. If you specify a user, it asks for a password. If not, it asks for both user and password. Most shops don't want to open up REXEC and might even shut down the FTP subcommand RCMD.

I have IAFW configured on a server and can issue RUNRMTCMD from iSeries to
launch jobs.

Is there anyone familiar with using RUNCMD on the server side to start a
job on the iSeries? If so, could you give me an example.

  TIA,

  Matt
