Well, part of the problem is that a dash line really uses an em, I think it is called, which is thinner and longer than a text dash. While it is close, a line of them will look a tad off to a user. I ended up using a thinner line and that seems to work for this purpose.

Is it possible?

I don't know that I'd recommend it -- but it's possible.

Just draw lots of very short lines right next to each other. Each one will look like one dash in the dashed line.

It might be easier to use text, though. Maybe if you positioned text so that it's 1/2 of a line off from the other text, it'd work the way you wanted to.
