You write a script file and a batch file on the PC.

The batch file (this would be saved on the PC as c:\transfer.bat):

cd c:\
ftp -s:c:\getfile.ftp.txt > getfile.log.txt
exit

The script file (this would be saved on the PC as c:\getfile.ftp.txt):

Open <as_400_name>
<as_400_userid>
<as_400_password>
(other FTP subcommands here)
quit

That worked well, thanks.

My dos is a little rusty though, how do I get the ftp command to accept
commands after it's launched?

Not directly, but you can write a script on the PC and have the AS/400
execute it for you.

PGM
DCL        VAR(&CALL) TYPE(*CHAR) LEN(123) VALUE(' ')
DCL        VAR(&PATH) TYPE(*CHAR) LEN(80)    VALUE('c:\transfer.bat')

STRPCO     PCTA(*NO)
MONMSG     MSGID(IWS4010)
CHGVAR     VAR(&CALL) VALUE('start' *BCAT &PATH)
STRPCCMD   PCCMD(&CALL) PAUSE(*NO)
MONMSG     MSGID(CPF0000)
ENDPGM

You can run any PC program you want from an AS/400 session that way.
