Someone posted a message about certain WRKSPLF api's running really slow. Thought I'd forward this message about spool performance that got fixed by doing a V5R3 to V5R4 upgrade: Way back on January 6 of this year, I sent you the email below regarding the issue with sessions appearing to hang-up when you release a report. Well, since we did the operating system upgrade on GDIHQ this weekend I had a memo on my calendar to test this with assistance level set to Basic. It seems to work okay now, so maybe IBM decided this wasn't a feature after all. Let me know if for some reason you revert back to Basic assistance level and encounter this problem again. Thank you, Kevin Reed __________________ Cheri, The issue with releasing spooled files goes back to our emails last May. Rob Berendt presented this to IBM as a problem, and IBM responded with "no, it's not a problem, simply use Intermediate assistance level.". When you're at Basic level, doing a "6" to release something, then a "10" to start the printer, your session checks ALL spooled files on GDIHQ. And there are probably tens of thousands of them. Currently, the only solution is for you to change your assistance level to Intermediate. You can do this by doing an F21 (shift F9) while on the spooled file screen and selecting option 2. Similar steps to change it back. We may be installing an operating system upgrade in a couple of months after which I'll check to see if it's magically been fixed. Rob Berendt
