No, you're not missing anything.  When you used SAVOBJ you saved the object
definition and not the contents - unless something has changed in recent
releases there hasn't been any direct way to save the output queue using the
standard SAV* commands.

Back in 1991 News/400 (now iSeries Network) provided two utilities to save
and restore output queues called, unsurprisingly, SAVOUTQ and RSTOUTQ.  If
you do a search on Google for either of these you should be able to download
it.

I would want to save the spool files for later reference. I saved the outq
into a save file using SAVOBJ. While restoring the outq, the spool files are
