Yeah, that works for a data file - Dave was asking about spooled files. You'd need to use CPYSPLF or one of the spooled file APIs first to get things into a PF. CPYSPLF will put out a single column file - well, maybe it can use an externally-defined PF as the target - interesting possibility - to get fields. Anyway, it's more complicated, usually, when dealing with spooled files.
