I've used IBM's ESS in the past. We dealt with the load source issues
by leaving a drive in the box to be the load source and pushing all our
user data out to the ESS

Subject: RE: AS400 on a Storage Area Network (SAN)

We haven't done this yet, but the biggest issue is the load source. The
System i (AS/400, et al.) wants to see a physical load source drive to
boot from.

IBM's SAN solutions now have support for dedicating a disk as a load
source (and i5/OS supports this too - I think it's in V5R3M5, IIRC).
The only other SAN vendor who supports this that I know of is EMC. They
don't use the native functionality, but instead put a card connected to
the SAN in te load source slot to fool the system into thinking there is
a physical load source.

Now I'm not sure if you could put an IASP or user ASP (Auxiliary Storage
Pools that would not include load source) and put those on a SAN more
easily.

Good afternoon all,

I'm inquiring if anyone has placed the AS400 databases on a SAN.
Can anyone give me Pro's and Con's of doing this??

Thank you
