Hi Joel

We have sessions lock up and the device goes into "VARY ON PENDING" yet the
interactive job still thinks it's active. This is usually due to slow
network response for us. The PC gives up but the AS400 carries on.

We gave up using QINACTITV due to two problems
1) It killed our system console after we had set it in restricted state for
full system save at weekends. I did a workaround for this by having the "set
restricted state" software amend the QINACTITV system value to 0 and then a
scheduled job return it to normal after the backup was complete but this
meant we lost the QINACTITV session for the period between setting the
console and the backup completing.

2) We found that users were using alternate sessions despite asking them not
to. I couldn't block them from doing due to internal politics. The result of
this was that if a person had two sessions on one terminal (session) even
for two different userids, QINACTITV cancelled the device not the job
thereby killing the "inactive" session and any active ones. Your way of
ending the jobs may avoid this trap but that depends on how you have enacted
your "end job".

subject: Inactive Jobs

I'm still having a problem with some interactive jobs that go inactive.
Here's the situation... Our QINTACTITV system value is set for 30
minutes and QINACTMSGQ is to a message queue. We have a routine that
runs and ends the jobs that are referenced in the message queue. This
seems to work 95% of the time. For some reason the interactive jobs
that caused a problem the other day did not have a message in the queue
referenced by QINACTMSGQ. According to the user they had a query pulled
up on their screen and their session had "locked-up" and they ended
their session. The interactive job had a status of DSPW.

Any clues anyone???
