5722SS1 V5R3 PTF SI19413 will be your friend. With this PTF you can SNDPTFORD and get CUMEs and GROUPs downloaded directly to your iSeries as images. The download runs in batch and uses HTTP and HTTPS protocol so if your iSeries can reach the internet you're good to go.
I have to disagree about download director. It's a wonderful piece of work that in my opinion just works. I would say that the majority of the problems with any Fix Central issues are the Java on the PC side. If you have the current Sun java and use Firefox (most of the Fix Central developers use it) you will have pretty decent results.
