Dunno about those consoles, but the HMC is an xSeries box. 1U rack mount or
standard PC desktop. The rack mount one still says xSeries on the front. It's
a Linux appliance and boots/runs the console code automatically. It has an
internal DVD burner for backups and has multiple Ethernets on the back for
connecting to the iSeries and your LAN. You can use PS/2 or USB keyboards &
mice.

Hi,

Let me start by saying that I have not touched an HMC so far! Believe it or not!

Is the ´new' HMC not just another reincarnation of what used to be the console
on the 9375s, 4381s (?), etc?? The microcode used to be loaded from the
harddrive of the console, which in every way resembled a PS/2 workstation. In
fact, I think it was one.

Regards,

Jan.
