We still use the LDA for one system on our machine. The application system doesn't allow passing of parms from the INTERACTIVE program to the BATCH program, so the LDA is used. But of course we could handle this predicament with a controlling CL and not allow the application handle the INTERACTIVE and BATCH programs. But it's always been done that way. I've never worked on the /36... I guess I could still be considered a newbie (V5R1 earliest I worked on). Primarily because of Barbara's concerns. Is there anyone, who hasn't worked on a S/36 or a S/34, who uses the LDA? When it really gets to be a hoot is when you have two applications, let's say one is from ERP vendor "A" and one is from accounting vendor "B" and you write interface programs between the two of them. Too bad they all didn't get together and come up with stringent industry standards on the use of LDA. (Actually, neither package uses it either. Just pointing that out as a possible nightmare scenario.) How can you be sure that no other program in your job is already using that section? Me, I'd be terrified to start using the LDA, especially on a system where the use of the LDA was common in applications. I wouldn't know when to stop testing whether I had messed anything else up. -- This is the Midrange Systems Technical Discussion (MIDRANGE-L) mailing list To post a message email: MIDRANGE-L@xxxxxxxxxxxx To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/mailman/listinfo/midrange-l or email: MIDRANGE-L-request@xxxxxxxxxxxx Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/midrange-l.
