We have both an IXA and IXS, we use the IXA for a single application and the new IXS (2-way) for a Microsoft Business System we are going to. The IXS just takes space in our 520 rack and use's HSL & Power Sequence cables to connect it to the i5, the disk space for both is carved out of the i5 disk (IFS). The IXA is in our 5094 expansion tower. Jeffry A. Currently one of several solutions is needed. Solution 1: Use an IXS card. If you do not have a need for a multiprocessor PC, or special I/O cards in the PC, then I'd go for this solution. Will take 1 slot for the processor card and 1 slot for the KVM card. Also, if you do not have one, you'll need one slot for the I/O processor. Easiest set up of the three possible solutions. We use several of these. Solution 2: Use an IXA. Recommended only if you are in need of a multiprocessor PC, or special I/O cards in the PC. I've not used it myself. Takes several cables (3) from iSeries to xSeries. Not sure how many slots will be eaten up to support these cables. Solution 3: Use iSCSI. Requires i5, no AS/400's or iSeries please. Requires V5R4. One card. No I/O processor required. Can be used to an external PC much like the IXA or it can be used to a blade center. xSeries must run Windows Server 2003. Not ready for prime time yet.
