The story I heard* Microsoft marketing was telling customers that Microsoft in-house was using AS/400 for, and they got called on it, so it became politically neccessary for Microsoft to use THEIR products to run the stuff they were marketing to other companies
* Microsoft had trouble converting from AS/400 to a server farm** Something about the server farm not being able to keep terabytes of data in sync across multiple processors * They transferred the business that used to be on AS/400 in-house to some ASP that used AS/400 * Microsoft could then say, with a straight face, that they had no AS/400 in-house
Walmart is a Mainframe shop at its core with many other host around the many data centers... Microsoft ran its business on AS/400 and iSeries but had an ugly public display when they were mentioned by the IBM Rochester folks... The systems were moved off site so as not to be on display..No information if they do or do not currently run on i5.... -- This is the Midrange Systems Technical Discussion (MIDRANGE-L) mailing list To post a message email: MIDRANGE-L@xxxxxxxxxxxx To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/mailman/listinfo/midrange-l or email: MIDRANGE-L-request@xxxxxxxxxxxx Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/midrange-l.
