You didn't use the right option - Critical system messages:

Specifies whether   messages on the QSYSMSG   message queue 
(CRITSYSMSG) are cleaned up.  The cleanup function deletes messages 
on the QSYSMSG message queue that have remained on the system longer
than the number of days specified if QSYSMSG queue exists. 
 
The possible values are: 
 
*KEEP 
    Messages are not deleted; they are kept. 
 
number-of-days 
    Specify the number of days messages are kept before they are 
    deleted.  Valid values range from 1 through 366.
