But does it really?  So we are talking an extra 1.4GB of space, but put that
in perspective.  What is the total record length of the file?  Does it still
seem that significant to have another 2 bytes?

I have nearly 1 TB of disk on my desktop PC.  Numbers like 1.4GB just don't
seem significant anymore, even with the price of i5/iSeries/as400 disk.
