> Disk space is cheaper than your time :) And not only that, but alpha fields handle non-USA postal codes in this global economy, plus you don't have extra hoops to jump through to make the leading zeros show up and properly hyphenate Zip+4 when present but suppress it when not present. I don't think chaining to a numeric field will be measurably faster, but even if it was, you'd lose more than that by needing to edit the numeric field instead of just using the alpha field contents. Though even that is a non-issue -- as Barbara Morris points out about performance optimizing the wrong sections of code: "It is like standing on a chair to get closer to the moon." Doug
