CRTDUPOBJ can fail for a number of reasons. Prompt CRTDUPOBJ, move the cursor to the "Create Duplicate Object" heading, press F1, and scroll to the bottom. A list of all possible error messages exists there. For a file, I believe some kind of lock is required to successfully duplicate the object. As an alternative, I suggest adding a member to the file and then removing the member when the process is complete. It doesn't have the pitfalls of CRTDUPOBJ and also permits one to see the data being processed if the program crashes. Donald R. Anyway, if you get a CPF3142, the file isn't in QTEMP, so how could a CRTDUPOBJ fail? (All our programs use adopted authority, so that won't be a problem). <clip>
