You've got the special cable that's required for attaching the 520 to the UPS, right? It goes between the serial cable to the UPS and the 520 (possibly requiring you to change the gender on your serial UPS cable). I have a 520 and a Netfinity UPS (Liebert). There is a serial signal cable from the Netfinity to the 520. I've used the same UPS program for umpteen years, using that serial cable. Worked flawlessly through every iSeries and the old UPS which was an AP175. I replaced the UPS about the same time I got the 520. For a long time I had the issue where the 520 would not respond to signals from the UPS. Found it out when there was an extended power outage over the weekend and the system shut down hard when the battery died. :( It took firmware upgrades (the MHxxxxx PTFs) along with total 520 power downs and unplugging and standing on one leg, etc to get the 520 to respond to UPS signals. But I still don't get the "UPS is attached" and "UPS is no longer attached" messages appearing. IBM says it's the UPS fault. I think IBM is hiding something but I can't seem to get anywhere.
