I was told by an IBM Service Rep that you could *not* hook up the second SCSI 
port to another controller, just another *device* in the chain.
  This was for a 3581 on an i570.

Some IBM tape drives have a fiber attachment. We have a 3582-L23 set up 
this way. Actually we have two 3582L23's, each with two drives, set up 
this way. Each drive's fiber goes to an IBM 2109-F16 SAN switch. Then 
fiber goes from the 2109 to 5704 cards (controlled by 2844 cards) in each 
box or lpar. We have one drive in one of the 3582's shared with 3 boxes.
