We are in the process of trying to setup a Disaster Recovery machine and have been looking at licensing essential software. Our ERP vendor wants to hit us up for about $100k just to be able to load their software on the D-R box even though we're not going to be using it, unless we actually declare a disaster. So, we're thinking that maybe we should just look at setting up the machine, setting up replication software to mirror the database, and nothing else. Then, should the need arise, and we actually have a disaster, we would call their support and request a temporary license key to run on until we got our primary machine back on-line. In essence the D-R machine would be a live backup, but not necessarily a High Availability box. Ideally, we would like to have a "real" HA solution, but at this cost, we simply can't justify it right now. So, my question is, has anyone else dealt with this issue and what did you do? I know there are probably some legal and ethical ramifications to consider as well, but I'm trying to figure out a way we can justify a workable D-R solution and need some input. BTW: If you don't feel comfortable discussing this in the public realm, please feel free to send me an email off-list. Thanks,
