I recently upgraded the firmware on my 3582-L23 to
Application 307B.GY001
Picker 004.0B2
RMU 190C
Drive1 53Y2
Drive2 53Y2
Boot 105A.00005
Picker Boot BOOT.3F
Since doing so I am getting the following error in my backup program
VRYCFG CFGOBJ(TAP04) CFGTYPE(*DEV) STATUS('*ON')
CPD2616-Device TAP04 vary failed. No recovery attempted.
Reason code is 00003404. 00003404: An error occurred during vary on
processing.
Recovery . . . :00003404: Check your hardware to ensure it is connected
correctly and is powered on. Look for any tape VLIC logs (major code
2E00) or error logs that were created around the time of failure which may
indicate the problem. Then try the request again.
Nothing in WRKPRB.
Nothing in the Product Activity Log.
Nothing in the Service Action Log.
Backup does a second vary on in the code and it works.
Varying on from the command line works the first time.
Programs have not been modified in months.
Tape drive is shared via a 2109-F16 fiber switch between 3 different
boxes. All three boxes use the 5704 fiber card, supported by a 2844 card.
Since the firmware upgrade they are all getting the errors. There is a
large time lag between one machine finishing it's backup and varying the
tape drive off and before the next machine varies it on. That rather
rules out that conflict. That, and the fact that it would be pretty
freaking amazing for the second vary on to always work when it's only
seconds away from the first. Also, the error message from the first
varyon occurs subsecond - no wait time involved.
Tried opening up a software problem but the lazy buggers there give me the
old "We are not allowed to debug cl pgms."
