Dan, Well, I can *definitely* answer that last question: NO!!! It will read every > record in the file, even reads the dang thing in key sequence!!! Then why not use a SQL statement instead and do an INSERT INTO? The query optimizer is smart enough to use existing indexes for record selections. Doug
