You should have the option to create a certificate with DCM to encrypt the tapes. You can take this to a DR box and if you have a Cryptographic IOP, it should be used to help speed the encryption process when writing to tape. At least this is my outlook on how tape encryption should work. Oh yea, make sure you backup DCM un-encrypted. Do not bother to encrypt IBM libraries and folders. Perhaps a library / folder setting of whither to encrypt or not during a backup. Heck I only want to encrypt data and source files, the rest can be left unencrypted. Dreaming on... There are a number of technical issues. Do you encrypt by serial number, which means that you can only restore to the same serial number. What about when you migrate to another platform? Do you then encrypt with 2 serial numbers? What about a D/R situation? Also, what would be the CPU implications, or would you use an encryption IOA?
