Isn't IBM still providing education vouchers with the purchase of a new
box? I seem to recall that they can be used even for a trip to COMMON.

You know, some of us may gag at the high price of IBM education. However
he IS coming from a mainframe shop so they are used to shoveling out the
dough. In that case, it may behoove him to go to IBM's education web site
and pick out an educational path. They even have a bulk purchase designed
for a person just like him. Something like get $27,500 in training for
$22,500.

Also, in the fine print of several of the package deals when you buy an i5
is some free educational courses. Especially in any package deal that
appeals to a mainframe shop.

I've always found IBM's own courses to be top notch. You've also found
your
way here, and I don't know of a better way of supplementing formal
education than following midrange-l and rpg400-l. The iSeries is an
incredible machine and tremendously satisfying to work with. Good luck
with
this career step.
