Hi Paul,

I am not au fait with the current pricing structure but, when the "One forAll" occurred it was priced as one and a half times the price of the RPGcompiler (IIRC and I am open to correction). This would have made it cheaperthen buying the RPG compiler and ADTS (PDM, SEU etc.).

And I do think it has to be one for all if you are going to have an ILEenvironment. How are you going to fic all those C functions I send you...uh, not that you would need to fix them, uh...

If the customer has a need for several of the pieces, that's fine. I'vegot

a customer in Tulsa who never got PDM, and the RPG compiler because their
software provider gave them the old line "You won't need those things
because we'll take care of you". That was on a P05 model 500. Then the
customer was forced into the P10 tier due to a system upgrade. At that
point, WDS became $25,000. It became less expensive for me to somebody

else's machine for development and port things to Tulsa. Now he's got a520

Enterprise machine, but still doesn't have WDS. When I asked him the other
day about getting the keys to WDS, he said that he's negotiating with IBM
for the price of just the RPG part.

This is the client who has been plunging down the Oracle path for 5 years,
but the 520 side is strictly an RPG application. When the users saw how
fast the new 520 is, and that via iSeries Access for the web, they didn't
need green screen, they started to question even more why they have been
moving to Oracle.

I fear that if IBM won't play ball, this client is going to redouble his
efforts to get to Oracle.

Gotta disagree with this idea.   It used to be this way until the
Toronto guys got the old PDM, all compilers, and the new WDSC bundled
under one price that was HUGELY cheaper than all the stuff together.
The cost to IBM to distribute all the difference pieces would actually
add cost and in the end stop customers from doing things that can do now
becuase they have the compiler.   We have many customers with one or two
'C' programs or a couple inherited COBOL programs which they can now
maintain because 'get one, get 'em all'.  If broken out customers would
likely stick lick glue to just one language and rule out solutions that
may include a few bits in another language.
