We use Showcase (including ESSBASE) on our iSeries (it's actually our largest system) and we pull in data from non-iSeries sources. We have had pretty good results. My opinion is that the most important thing is to keep your data on the iSeries if at all possible. That is where you get 90% of your bang. Having the product run on the iSeries is nice but not critical. Just helps with scheduling and certain release support issues. We are not current with releases (long story about a whiny BI administrator) so I can't tell you about release 7.
