   Brian,

I just did our upgrade and there were few problems. Here are the ones
   that I know of;

   * Change to the copy command(s) to and/or from the IFS. I think the
command is CPYFRMIMPF It now pays attention to the CCSID, and if they are
not right for all fields, you might have bad data after the upgrade when
you do a transfer. There is a way around this if I remember correctly,
   check the archive.

   * New system values for save/restore/security, or new defaults. Two of
them caused minor problems for us, we don't save access paths, and the
system value QSAVACCPTH caused us to overflow tapes on the first system
save. Easily fixable, but not something I caught in reading the upgrade
information. The other one had something to do with a restore of and
signatures not matching or some server not found. I was not involved with
that find and fix, so I'm not exactly sure what was resolved.

   * I tried to use the Image Catalog to do the upgrade, and it would not
work. Had to do the install off of the CDs, which was an inconvenience,
   but not a show stopper.

I read the information available (glad info center was up a few weekends
ago!), followed the check list, and all went well. Still working on
implementation of some of the new stuff like time serving. I made sure to
create and populate the data area that sets the time.

   HTH

   Jim

     Hi All,

As you may have seen in a previous message, our iSeries is currently
sitting at v5r2. How difficult is it to upgrade to v5r3. Is there
anything specific that needs to be done (next to an Option 21) to
perform an upgrade? I'd be concerned about killing our production
machine (we had problems last time we went from v4r5 to v5r2), but I'm
wondering if that was because it was a major upgrade instead of a
     minor(?) upgrade.

     Thanks,

     Brian.
