SMTP is the protocol used to transfer mail between mail servers. It's also the protocol used by a client application to transfer mail to a mail server. POP is a client protocol used to pull down mail from your mail server to your desktop PC. I was under the impression that SMTP sends mail, and POP receives it. Am I laboring under an oversimplification?
