Hi David

Sounds like a cool idea to me; it would certainly support IBM's positioning of the iSeries as a consolidation box especially if it didn't mean a database conversion; of course in a linux or aix partition this could be done right now, surely ?

It will be interesting to see if there is any effect on the hardware pricing of the iseries - could IBM seriously price i and p very differently to a customer wanting to run oracle on i ? How would they avoid this occurring in the market except by removing or reducing the price differential ? [am i just being naive]

What would be the effect on oracle pricing if you compared how many power processors you need on i versus sparc or itanium on sun or intel gear ? My interpretation of the various performance bits and pieces i have seen suggests that you would need less processors to run the same number of transaction on i. getting an 8 way instead of a 16 way would have a significant impact on oracle pricing as I understand it.

We live in interesting times...

Maybe this is a dumb question ... but: Why?
