As soon as a second program 'touches' the same record, how do you then know that another program was there first? And if you can't know that another program was there, how do you ever _know_ what happened to the record? (E.g., how do _know_ someone didn't simply use UPDDTA to change the program name in the record?) In short, what real use do you get from storing the program name? Database journaling could be a far better choice. It tracks program/user/timestamp info for as long a period as you need (or even for as short a period as wanted if receivers are kept small). It also provides abilities to back a sequence out or reapply a sequence. Tom Liotta
