I can't believe how simple this was... We were replacing a worn out 4247 that had printed millions of invoices in the last six years. It never occurred to me to simply try a "new" parallel cable, which I finally decided to do last night. The 4227 started printing it's little heart out. The cable in question had probably been causing them problems on the 4247 and when we put the same cable on the 4227, it just failed miserably.
