A few other issues,
If you have program described this file you must test the effect on field positions. If you pass parameters that include the field you change you have to look at that also. If you use embedded SQL and you put the information into a program described data structure you need to change those programs. I also recommend that you do NOT use LVLCHK(* NO) it causes problems that don't show immediately.

CHGPF is the command you're looking for. It will deal with all the
logicals under the covers. You will still have to deal with the program
built over the file. Given that the field is in the middle of the file,
changing the file to LVLCHK(*NO) _WILL_ result in problems, I can
promise! LVLCHK(*NO) is the most evil thing to ever to hit the iSeries.
