*ALLUSR will restore all libraries with user data in them, i.e. all your
user or application created libraries plus QUSRSYS, QGPL and various
other Q libraries with user data in them (but not IBM program
libraries.)

If you are trying to restore your application libraries in order to
rerun your cycle it is important to know exactly what libraries are
required.  QUSRBRM is considered a user library, but you would
definitely not want to restore it.  It is also unlikely that you would
want to completely restore QUSRSYS or QGPL, if anything you would just
need a few select objects from these.  Additionally, if your cycle makes
any changes to DLO's or the IFS a RSTLIB SAVLIB(*ALLUSR) by itself will
not restore those to their previous states.

If your recovery strategy from a failed cycle is to restore to the
previous known state it is ESSENTIAL that you know EXACTLY what is
required to get to that state.  Even if you assume that restoring too
much won't hurt anything, it wastes time and is inelegant.

I look at the backup CL and noticed that we are doing the following:

Savlib Lib(*IBM)
SAVELIB LIB(*ALLUSR)
SAVDLO DLO(*YES)
SAV DEV('QSYS.LIB/TAP01.DEVD')

Our system manager said that we should only restore the *ALLUSR library.
Why wouldn't we save the others?

Are you talking about a full restore of all system files, folders and
user data, or just data?

In any event, log onto your AS/400 and type GO RESTORE.  Select the type
of backup you wish to restore (ie: 21 for and OPTION 21 restore).

Our cycle ended last night, so we need to restore from our backup.  How
do you do a full backup from tape?  What is the command to restore from
tape restore?
